France forward Antoine Griezmann received his award as the UEFA EURO 2016 Player of the Tournament ahead of his nation’s European Qualifier against Bulgaria.

The 25-year-old Atlético Madrid forward finished the tournament with six goals and two assists as the hosts reached the final, losing out to Portugal. However, UEFA’s panel of technical observers still rated him as the best performer of the finals.

“Griezmann was a threat in every game he played,” said UEFA’s chief technical officer Ioan Lupescu. “He works hard for his team and possesses technique, vision and quality finishing. The technical observers were in unanimous agreement that he was the tournament’s outstanding player.”

Griezmann was handed the unique, specially-designed trophy by Lupescu before the warm-up against Bulgaria.

UEFA’s 13-strong panel of technical observers for the tournament comprised Lupescu, Sir Alex Ferguson, Alain Giresse, David Moyes, Packie Bonner, Mixu Paatelainen, Savo Milošević, Peter Rudbæk, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Schaaf, Jean-François Domergue, Ginés Meléndez and Jean-Paul Brigger.
