Transfer FIGHT! Manchester City and Manchester United in battle to sign Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo
Will Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo be heading to Manchester this summer?
Manchester City are ready to join their near-neighbours Manchester United in the race for Benfica defender Nelson Semedo.
United have already landed Victor Lindelof from the Portuguese club and have been linked with a swoop for his former team-mate too.
But now, according to the reports in Portugal, City are also hot on Semedo’s heels with signing new full-backs a Pep Guardiola’s priority.
The manager needs defenders down both sides when the window opens so the 23-year-old, who can operate on either flank, fits the bill perfectly.
It has been suggested City will lodge a formal bid this week, although it may initially fall short of Benfica’s £43.75million valuation.
Guardiola’s old club Barcelona also remain interested in the Portuguese but they are reportedly not willing to pay any more than £26.25m.
