Pogba only managed 19 minutes during United’s 3-0 Champions League win over Basel last night before picking up a hamstring injury.

But the cameo was long enough to prompt criticism from former Liverpool player and manager Souness, who was working as a pundit on the game for Irish channel TV3.

“I want to see Paul Pogba do what Fellaini does,” said Souness, who won five league titles and three European Cups with Liverpool, and managed the club between 1991 and 1994.

The Scot went on to describe Pogba as “a bit of a YouTuber” who has not won much in his career.

Pogba, 24, won four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies and two Suppercoppa Italianas during four seasons at Juventus.

He returned to United for a world-record £90million in 2016, winning the Europa League and EFL Cup in his first season at Old Trafford.

Souness’ comments follow strange remarks made by fellow pundit Garth Crooks on Monday.

“I also want to discuss Pogba’s new hairstyle, which features a red streak’ Crooks told BBC Sport after United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke.

“I only mention it because he clearly wants to bring it to our attention. There is so much for the midfielder to do at Manchester United and he still insists on behaving like an adolescent.

“Granted, a hairstyle is not going to determine how well he can control a ball or make a pass, but it does say something about where his mind is at the moment.

“If you are going to attract attention to yourself on a football pitch do it with goals and performances, not cheap gimmicks and marketing tricks.”

Pogba captained United before injury brought his night to a premature end, but United ran out 3-0 winners against Basel thanks to goals from Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.
