James Rodriguez to Man Utd: Real Madrid star wants transfer over Chelsea deal – reports
Rodriguez looks set to leave Real Madrid with Manchester United and Chelsea in the mix for his signature.
The Colombia international endured a tricky campaign under Zinedine Zidane, being restricted to just 32 appearances across all competitions.
As a result, he faces an uncertain future at the Bernabeu, with Real also planning an overhaul of their attack.
They have been linked with a move for Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, while Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe has also emerged as a top target.
United and Chelsea are planning to bolster their respective squads this summer despite winning three major trophies between them.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim that Rodriguez would prefer to move to Old Trafford instead of Stamford Bridge.
The 25-year-old is willing to stay at Real if a move for United does not happen.
Real chief Florentino Perez is reportedly demanding £70million for the 25-year-old – £10m more than what they paid Monaco to sign him after the 2014 World Cup.
It is said that Perez would then use those funds to attempt to beat United and Manchester City to Mbappe.
However, United are supposedly only willing to pay £35m for the South American superstar.
Rodriguez is not the only Madrid player being linked with a move to the Premier League.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning decision to leave the club has put United on red alert, though much may depend on the outcome of his tax trial.
And striker Alvaro Morata, who earned his Real debut under Mourinho back in 2010, is also on their hitlist.
United have already tied up one deal this summer in the form of centre-back Victor Lindelof, who arrived from Benfica.
