Brighton v Manchester City: Express Sport brings you LIVE coverage from the Amex Stadium

45: Tons of promise, no goals for Manchester City. Quite a familiar story really. Pep Guardiola’s side almost seem to think having the baulk of possession means they’re winning.

43: The hosts follow that with a decent chance that Murphy is inches away from pinching from the onrushing Emerson.

41: Nice play from Brighton. Record signing Propper brings it forward, shrugs off KDB’s challenge but his pass is too strong for March to collect. Encouraging.

39: It will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola makes any changes. Don’t get me wrong, City are clearly in the ascendancy, but they haven’t found the net.

36: How haven’t Manchester City scored?! Sergio Aguero reaches the byline, crosses back for Gabriel Jesus, who heads it straight at Ryan from no more than two-yards out. He smashes the rebound against the post and Brighton get away with one.

33: Stephens ploughs into Stephens for the third time this afternoon but escapes a booking. It’s KDB territory again… blocked! He smashes it straight into the wall.

30: Disallowed goal! KDB plays a wonderful ball through to Gabriel Jesus, who scores but it’s ruled out for a handball.

The ball struck Jesus’ chest, rolled onto his arm and then went in the net.

He’s down receiving treatment after clattering into Ryan, and receives a booking for what was a complete accident.

Total nonsense.

27: Stephens glances a defensive header backwards, but he breathes a sigh of relief as it dribbles past the post. Brighton clear the corner.

25: Loanee signing Izzy Brown goes down clutching his hamstring, I’m not sure he’s going to continue. Actually, he’s definitely not going to continue. Jamie Murphy replaces him.

22: OK, it’s quite nice watching City pass it around at leisure, but it’s also extremely infuriating to see them reach the final third and not cause Brighton any problems. KDB looks to thread Jesus through, but there’s far too much on his pass.

18: Stephens hacks down Silva just outside the area. Step up, Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian assess the angles… saved. He struck it straight at Ryan, who kept hold.

15: Solly March is looking like Brighton’s most composed player. He’s just done a nice turn and laid it off… but it was in his own half.

City just toying with the Premier League newcomers. Duffy concedes a corner. David Silva whips it in and Fernandinho heads wide.

11: Well, the positive for Brighton is that they’re not losing and that’s about it. They just can’t get the ball of Manchester City, who are looking ominously good.

8: Beautiful from Jesus. The striker flicks the ball over his head, controls and only the outstretched boot of Dunk prevents KDB from finishing.

6: Kyle Walker makes his first charge down the right flank but Sergio Aguero’s shot was wild and Gabriel Jesus can’t convert the loose ball.

4: Ederson has a Claudio Bravo moment in the opening stages with a fairly poor pass straight to Stephens but Fernandinho recovers possession. City goalkeepers, providing regular heart-attacks since ’09.

17:20: Pep Guardiola is convinced Manchester City will make a stronger challenge for honours this season.

City have spent more than £200million rebuilding their squad over the summer after an underwhelming and trophyless 2016-17 campaign.

And the the Spaniard has high hopes.

He said: “I think if you see the team last season and this season, (from) the four (pre-season) games we played, the fundamentals are the same. But we cannot forget that when we do something better than last season it’s because we’ve been one year together.

“We know better, I know better and they know me better. Hopefully the work we did last season – when being champions was not possible – we can see it this season because the work is done. The new players that come in they have to adjust to the way we want to play.”

BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS

Jose Izquierdo is unlikely to receive his international clearance in time to make his Brighton bow.

The winger’s move from Club Brugge is not expected to be completed in time for him to feature at the Amex Stadium, although Chris Hughton can call on new recruit Davy Propper, the midfielder signed from PSV Eindhoven.

Midfielder Beram Kayal will miss the next two months with a broken leg however, and his absence restricts boss Hughton’s options.

MANCHESTER CITY TEAM NEWS

Manchester City could hand debuts to four summer signings in their Premier League opener at Brighton.

Goalkeeper Ederson, midfielder Bernardo Silva and full-backs Kyle Walker and Danilo could all feature for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Another new recruit, left-back Benjamin Mendy, is missing with a thigh problem while midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is not yet fully fit after suffering a knee injury last season.
