Captain Corner: Gameweek 30
With just nine Gameweeks to go this season we are definitely coming to the home straight. You may well think that your current ranking and mini league position is where you might end up but making some good decisions between now and Gameweek 38 could turn your whole season round.
One of those decisions could be on a bold captain pick or two. Here at the FPL Academy we want to offer you all some advice as to who are the best considerations for the captains armband.
As well as offer advice we are also testing our picks by creating a league table showing the average points scored by each writer’s selections. You can see that table to the right.
As you can see @Moris_FC not only makes awesome graphics for the site but is also handy when it comes to selecting a skipper. An average of 8.7 points per selection is very impressive.
Sitting just behind on 8.6 points per selection is Highlights master @Oysteinwalle89.
Making up the final three is recent climber @UtterlyTC who’s had a recent jump in the table thanks to some good picks.
It’s still close at the top though and one mega pick could elevate any of the team. This week @FPLOwl, @elldubya1, @UtterlyTC and @Oysteinwalle89 all get an opportunity to share their knowledge with you all.
Having suffered through an international break stinked with injuries, the obvious captain choice for gw30 seems illusive. Therefore I’m trusting arguably the player of the season to prove his worth yet again. He’s looked on fire for his national team during the break, even though carrying an ancle injury. He loves a big game at home, and with City coming to town, my bet is on him to deliver. My captain this week is Alexis Sánchez.
So I love a defender! So when that defender is playing as a winger, against a pretty poor (all be it recently improved) defence, I can’t resist. Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet since Gameweek 22 but his potential at both end of the pitch are just crying out to me. Alonso Alonso Alonso!
Finally, another painstaking international break is out of the way. I’m annoyed at myself for wasting a transfer last GW as I brought in Costa instead of Vardy. This week I have righted my wrong and Jamie Vardy lines up in my side. On top of this, he will be wearing my armband. Stoke are hit and miss and on their day can let in a sack full of goals. I’m hoping this will be one of those weeks.
I’ve decided to go for the resurgent Jamie Vardy this gameweek – after his cameo for England in their latest qualifier, in which he looked sharp, energetic, and took his goal well. He has a great looking fixture (home to a Stoke side who’ve not much to play for), and I’m backing him to continue his recent strong form this weekend.
So three different but very credible picks this week and all of them worthy of captaincy consideration.
Don’t let us be the only ones to have a say though, tell us who you will be selecting either by commenting below or speaking to any of us on Twitter.
Good luck to you all for Gameweek 28.
