Gameweek 8 – Points
The headline for this week I think should be, ‘Trust Your Gut’!…well kind of, it worked out for the Men as captain Marko Arnautovic matched the Machine captain choice of Alexis Sanchez totaling 10 points each which wasn’t too shabby! I think I should now point out that the Men have regained their lead against the Machine by a moderate 12 points as the Men hit a total of 51 points whilst the Machine slipped to just below average (39) with 38 points. The Men were rewarded with some trusty faithful’s coming good in Courtois (6 points), Valencia (7 points), Hazard (8 points) and Wilson (9 points) helping to amass the points total this week; ignoring the fact that Aguero came in with negative points at minus 1 (-2 for a captain pick and I’ve seen some had triple captained him hoping for the wonders of Magic GW8 from previous seasons only to get -3!) For the Machine it was a disappointing week as six of their side came in with 2 or less points and being rescued with their captain choice, Costa and Eriksen. I am sure the Machine will be looking for revenge this week as they look to have things sorted with the fixtures matching key players they own and are in form so the points swing could be back in favour of them by the end of next Gameweek, but let’s wait and see as FPL is unpredictable at the best of times!
Men – 397 (466,998)
Machine – 385 (712,546)
This 12 point gap at this stage of the season gives a 250,000 position difference!
The Men have done a lot of deliberating this week for planning some future moves and getting the in-form players as not owning Theo Walcott or Alexis Sanchez at this stage does concern them. With that in mind it was time for the Big Swede who is a national hero and not short on confidence but is lacking in FPL points return for a hefty price tag as Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes way to free some cash. His replacement could be pretty much anyone having that amount of cash free and the Men have gone with none other than Diego Costa as he is becoming hard to ignore, being on four yellow cards is a concern but if he gets booked at the weekend he will only miss the league cup game so that in a way could be for the best! The machine bolsters their attacking threat as they have removed Christian Eriksen and brought in the form player of the season and the current highest points scorer in the game; Theo Walcott! This double up of Walcott and Sanchez could be a dream pairing for this weekend’s fixture against Middlesbrough at the Emirates Stadium. The Machine is certainly hoping the duo carry on returning the high points so far as they have given the captains armband to the Chilean superstar; Alexis Sanchez. The Men have taken the decision to captain another South American and put their faith in the little Argentinian of Sergio Aguero!, although there are doubts on his future at City following Pep Guardiola’s strange comments on the press conference this week it could be a call for Aguero to prove himself and the Men are certainly hoping for a few goals from him this weekend!
Men: Zlatan Ibrahimovic > Diego Costa (£1.6m Banked / Squad Value £100.5m)
Machine: Christian Eriksen > Theo Walcott (£0.6m Banked / Squad Value £99.6m)
